Roller Garage Door Slat Replacement, Barrel Auto-Lock Straps & Guide Rail Repairs
When a car bumper nudges a closing roller garage door, or when the curtain comes down onto a forgotten item in the doorway, the horizontal aluminium slats can crease, pull out of the vertical side tracks, or snap the top auto-lock security straps. Because a roller curtain is built from individual interlocking laths, you almost never need to buy a complete new garage door—we replace only the damaged slats and broken locking straps on site.

Why Roller Curtains Jam at the Top: Snapped Octagonal Barrel Auto-Lock Straps
Rather than using a traditional key lock at the bottom of the door, modern electric roller garage doors rely on rigid articulated locking straps (often called 'auto-locks' or 'security hands') that connect the top slat of the curtain to the octagonal steel barrel. When the door closes fully, these straps curve over the barrel and lock against the top of the guide rail to prevent intruders from levering the curtain up. If the door closes onto an obstacle before the safety edge stops it, one of the plastic/steel strap links frequently snaps—causing the curtain to hang diagonally, jam inside the aluminium top hood box, or chew the top slats. We open the hood cover, fit a matched full set of heavy-duty replacement locking straps, and re-level the curtain.
Sectional Slat Replacement After Vehicle Bumper Impact
If a car reverses into the bottom of a closed roller door and bends 2 to 5 horizontal laths, national replacement companies will routinely quote £1,200+ for an entirely new door. Instead, our engineers release the curtain from the barrel, slide out only the creased 55mm or 77mm foam-filled aluminium slats, slide in new colour-matched laths with fresh riveted polymer endlocks, straighten or replace the extruded guide rail entry cones, and recalibrate the motor travel limits.
What Our Roller Shutter Engineers Complete on Site
- Complete replacement of snapped octagonal barrel locking straps (auto-locks) in matched sets across the axle
- Sliding out creased or dented 55mm and 77mm insulated aluminium slats and fitting colour-matched replacements
- Re-riveting sheared nylon endlocks and windlocks to stop lateral curtain drift and metal-on-metal scraping
- Re-tracking derailed roller curtains that have blown or been knocked out of their vertical guide channels
- Straightening dented aluminium top hood boxes (fascia covers) so the curtain roll clears smoothly without rubbing
- Replacing worn guide-rail brush strips and bottom rubber weather seals to stop leaves, draughts, and rainwater
